HUNDREDS of protesters on Tuesday, April 4, took over the main entrance of the National Assembly, Abuja, demanding for the immediate restatement of Ali Ndume, a suspended senator representing Borno.

Ndume was suspended on Wednesday, March 29, over the motions he raised triggering investigations into allegations of forgery against Bukola Saraki, Senate president, and Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West).

Ndume had asked for investigation of allegations of importation of a bullet proof range rover with fake documents involving Saraki and Melaye was accused of falsely claiming to have graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University.

The Senate dismissed both allegations, and sanctioned Ndume by suspending him for six months. Ever since, there have been moves by Borno politicians to get Ndume reinstated.

Protesters arrived the National Assembly gate early Tuesday bearing placards that read “Borno stand with Ndume,” “Bring back our Ndume,” “Nigerians are with Ndume,” “Saraki is a curse to Democracy,” the protesters including displaced persons asked to Saraki to rescind the suspension order on Nudume.

Many of the protesters are believed to be from Borno, Ndume’s district, but mostly live in Mararaba and Masaka areas of Abuja.
