GOV. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Tuesday presented a cheque of N10 million to the family of  Remilekun Arogundade, an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) who was crushed to death by a trailer.

Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Special Adviser on Transportation, Mr Oluwatoyin Fayinka, presented the cheque to the family of deceased at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Alausa, Ikeja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the deceased  was controlling traffic when a trailer reversed and crushed her to death on May 26 at Apapa area of Lagos.

The deceased is survived by a grandmother, a two-year-old daughter and husband, Mr Babatunde Oyebade, who works in one of the local governments in Lagos.

Presenting the cheque to Oyebade, the husband of the deceased, Sanwo-Olu said that the token was to cater for her family.

The governor said that he had led a team on condolence visit to the family moments after her demise and promised compensation.

Sanwo-Olu said that the compensation was a fulfillment of the promise made to the family when he visited them.

“The family she left behind, especially the child, must be adequately taken care of,” he said.

According to him, five million naira of the sum is exclusively to take care of  the two-year-old daughter, three million naira for Arogundade’s family, while two million naira is for the husband.

Sanwo-Olu, who advised that the compensation should not be misused, said that the deceased died on the line of duty.

He described the late LASTMA officer as highly active, diligent to duty and resourceful.

Responding to the gesture, Oyebade thanked the governor for keeping his words and LASTMA for standing by the family after the unfortunate incident.

“On behalf of the family of Oyebade and the family of Arogundade, we say a very big thank you to the Lagos State Gov. Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the LASTMA for this wonderful privilege.

“May the good Lord continue to guide you and protect Lagos State,” the husband of the deceased said.
