The Social Democratic Party (SDP), has said that Mr Geoffrey Miri was still its governorship candidate for Plateau, and urged voters to ignore any information to the contrary.

A statement issued by Mr Yusuf Hamman, Director, Miri Campaign Organisation, on Tuesday in Jos, dismissed the purported “resignation” of the candidate from the SDP as “the work of mischief makers.’’

“Mr Geoffrey Miri remains SDP’s Governorship Candidate for Plateau. Recent claims that he had resigned and had been replaced by one Mr John Pofi are false and fake news,” the statement said.

It claimed that the news of the purported resignation of Miri was concocted by Pofi “for reasons best known to him”.

“The said Pofi is no longer a member of SDP. He left the party after his plot to pull down Miri failed. He has also tried to bring the SDP to its knees, but that has also failed,” the statement said.

“We want to affirm our stance that Miri is our candidate; we also want to restate our conviction that he has the pedigree that can take Plateau to the promised land, ’’ the statement added.

The statement urged SDP members and supporters to remain resolute and be focused so that they would not be distracted from achieving the goal of winning the governorship seat of the North-Central State.

Efforts to obtain Pofi’s reactions to the claims proved abortive as calls to his lines did not go through. (NAN)
