Senate Rejects Special Status for Lagos State

THE Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, October 5, voted against a bill seeking special status and federal grant for Lagos State.

The bill sponsored by Oluremi Tinubu representing Lagos Central and member the All Progressives Congress, APC, was rejected after failing a voice vote called by Ike Ekweremadu, deputy Senate president, who presided.

The bill, SB 112, had sought one percent of federally generated revenue as special grant for Lagos State in view of the former Nigeria capital’s socio-economic significance.

But it failed to scale second reading for committee stage.
