THE Network of Yoruba Alliance, NEYA, a Pan-Yoruba advocacy group, has called on the All Progressives Congress, APC, led the federal government to stop the seemingly ongoing political witch-hunting among its ranks but rather devote quality time to solving the myriad of problems confronting Nigerians.

The group, in a statement issued in Lagos weekend, NEYA condemned the actions leading to the ongoing gale of defections in APC, warning that such development would have grave consequences on the citizenry if allowed to fester.

The group is of the opinion that a people oriented federal government should work together in harmony, no matter individual interests, for the common good of the generality of Nigerians.

The NEYA, therefore, warned that the APC, which presented itself as a political party coming to liberate the masses from the track of perdition might sink into more fatal derailment if conscious steps are not taken to accommodate the rising number of defections to other parties by key figures in the party hierarchy.

Sunday Akogun, spokesperson of the NEYA, condemned in strong terms the ongoing attacks on Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, and other notable lawmakers in both the upper and lower chambers of the National Assembly and the wanton use of the national security institutions to carry out individualistic assignments at the expense of national interests.

He said: “Nigerian political topography is being deliberately abused consistently by gruesome daylight robbery on the tenets of democracy by the ruling political party, the All Progressive Congress, APC.

“In an attempt to cover up under-performance of this administration, the APC has resulted to intimidating, harassing and coercing members of the party that dare challenge the party. This is tantamount to undermining the kernel of democracy (internal democracy) without which democratic sustainability can flourish”.

The group asserted that allegations and persecutions against the Senate president are seemingly political gimmicks orchestrated not only to frustrate, but to destroy him politically by the APC leadership and benefactors.

“He who must come to equity must come with clean hands. For instance, since the police claims that links Senator Bukola Saraki to the robbery in Offa, Kwara State was debunked by the robbers then, the police must be courageous enough to prosecute the robbers.

“The police must stop this show of shame and stop being used as an extension of the APC political party.”

The group further expressed shock with the manner the Yoruba leaders, home and abroad, had decided to watch with folded arms and sealed lips the persecution of Saraki in the hands of his political rivals.

“Despite the killings, maiming and kidnappings in the North and Middle Belt no significant arrest and prosecution has been made by a Federal Government, which has picked priority in victimizing its ranks within same party,” the group said.

The group in their requests, charged President Muhammadu Buhari to show the political will to salvage the Nigerian economic problems and enshrine the tenets of internal democracy as, as according to it, “this is the only bases for political sustainability.”
