THE traditional ruler of Uke in Idemili North Local Government Area, LGA, Igwe Charles Agbala, has called on leaders to embrace peace by giving listening ears to their followers.

He made the call at his palace while celebrating the 2019 new yam festival with his people.

Igwe Agbala urged leaders to embrace peace, saying that the country could not make progress without peace.

Dpeaking on the state of the nation, he said that “President Muhammadu Buhari should toe the path of dialogue, listen and understand the need of the masses; that is what will bring peace.

“No nation can succeed without peace. Leaders at various levels should be accommodating and accessible to their citizens.”

Agbala thanked God for this year’s harvest, expressing joy that the Merciful God had made food abundant for the people.

The royal father blessed the people and the land of Uke, saying that next year’s harvest would triple, because they have thanked God for the current harvest.

“We thank God for this year’s harvest. We sowed tiny seedlings, but look at the big tubers we harvested,’’ he said.

Igwe Peter Uyanwa of Ukwulu, Igwe George Okaa-Onwuogu of Nawgu and Igwe Nich Obi of Nnobi felicitated with the Uke monarch.

“Igwe Agbala is a kind gentleman that is why we came. It will be well with Uke people and Gov. Willie Obiano for promoting security and providing health insurance scheme,’’ said Igwe Uyanwa.

“Any community that doesn’t celebrate new yam is like a people without Igwe. I support joint celebration of new yam festival in Anambra State.

“It will attract tourists and revenue,’’ said Igwe Okaa-Onwuogu.

However, Igwe Nich Obi of Nnobi enjoined every community to respect their leaders, saying that without leadership there would be anarchy.

Earlier, Pastor Felix Ilechukwu, and a staff of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), urged the young and old, employed and unemployed to engage in agriculture, saying that it was lucrative.

“I have a farm where I cultivate cassava and maize. I eat and sell some of my farm produce.

“Everybody should engage in farming to augment their income, there is joy in farming,’’ Ilechukwu said.
