THE Umunze Youths Association of Nigeria have embarked on peaceful demonstration in condemnation of injustice in the town.

The association called on the self-acclaimed elite to desist from ‘divide and rule,’ which had hampered progress in the community.

Amechi Enye, the leader of the group, raised the issue of power tussle in Umunze, which had made it impossible for emergence of an elected president-general of Umunze Progressive Union, UPU.

Enye declared his resolve to conduct free, fair and transparent election on January 2, 2018.

He also lamented over outright exclusion or limited job opportunities for the indigenes at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze.

The youth leader complained that Umunze had yet to produce a provost since inception of the institution and urged the people involved to recognise the rights of the indigenes or face protest by the community.

He lamented a violation and abuse of human rights by the community Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Anti-Cult and other sister agencies and called for a stop to illegal arrest, manipulation and intimidation.

The issues of poor power supply and dilapidated roads were also raised.
