THE Unity Schools Old Students Alumni Association (USOSA), has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in Saturday’s presidential election.

USOSA President-General, Mr Lawrence Wilbert, gave the message on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

“The election have come and gone, and on behalf of all Unity Schools Alumni, I wish to congratulate Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and all winners of National Assembly Election in the country on their victories.

“Nigerians have given you all mandates, which is a validation of their confidence in your ability to lead our nation’s march to greatness.

“We trust the President, and other elected leaders will take steps to heal and unite various parties and interests in the nation towards our aspiration for greatness.

“We hope that the President will reach out to the best hands Nigeria can muster, where ever they may be, for the all important work of remaking Nigeria.

“The Unity Schools Alumni nation-wide, Nigeria’s best investment in education, are ready to serve,’’ he said.

Wilbert, however, urged Buhari to carry out a post-mortem of the national election to address various cases of voters’ disenfranchisement and violations recorded at some locations.

“I encourage the President to carry out a post-mortem of the election with a view to addressing various cases of systematic voter disenfranchisement, and pockets of violence at different locations in Nigeria.

“It is time to look at the proposed electoral reform bill with a view to enhancing the role of technology in our voting and collation processes, and overall improvements of our election management systems.

“Our elections can surely be better organised and the further introduction of new technology will lead to overall greater effectiveness and efficiency, and enhanced stakeholder confidence.

“We regret the needless loss of Nigerian lives in this 2019 national election, and urge for a sober reflection across the political landscape.

“The political class must shun the `do or die’ attitude to elections, and rededicate themselves to patriotic service, and a peaceful conduct of political and electoral affairs,’’ he said. (NAN)
