WINNER of an Igbo Cultural Festival, Ifeanyi Eva-Obika, has called on Ndigbo not to allow their rich cultural heritage to go extinct as culture plays vital role in lives of people.

Obika, chief executive officer, Diamond House Agency, while exchanging views with newsmen shortly after paying homage to Igwe Alfred Achebe, Obi of Onitsha, at Ime Obi Palace, Onitsha, described Onitsha monarch as an epitome of culture.

He noted that the Onitsha culture was recognised all over the world.

According to him, everyone is supposed to represent his culture since culture is an important aspect of life, even though not many people value culture.

Obika also commended the Governor Willie Obiano for promoting Igbo culture and called on the people to assist the governor in actualising his vision and aspiration for the state.

He expressed dismay at many tribes in Nigeria, who had lost their culture, history, respect and traditions that brought about disunity and backwardness.

Obika, then, called on government at all levels to assist in promoting culture and reminded Ndigbo to always remember the impact on the socio-political life of the people.

He appealed to Ndigbo to strive to impart on the younger generation the rich cultural heritage, saying that when these were acknowledged, it would bring about discipline, oneness and progress to the Igbo nation.

Obika called on all ethnic groups in Nigeria to embrace their cultures, since it has major ways of instilling love, unity and respect among the people in the society.

He suggested that government should devise ways and means of bringing all ethnic groups together to showcase their cultural heritage, stressing this would reduce, hatred and disunity.
