Voice of Ogun Women to hold Debate for Ogun Gubernatorial Candidates

A debate for 12 gubernatorial candidates from different political parties in Ogun State holds January 29 at the Olusegun Obsanjo Library Auditorium

AS PART of our objective in ensuring that Ogun Women have a voice in every matter concerning them in the society and government, Voice of Ogun Women, VOW, a non-partisan gender-based interest group will on Tuesday,  January 29, organise a debate for 12 gubernatorial candidates from different political parties in Ogun State.
According to Olufunke Fadugba, chairperson, Publicity Committee of VOW, the candidates for the debate were selected after an extensive online survey.
They are expected to reel out their plans for Ogun State women if elected as governor of Ogun State in the forthcoming election.
The debate tagged: “Ogun Women Decide” will afford the Female Electorates in Ogun the opportunity to choose the candidate, who will represent their interest better and bring various developmental strides into the State.
The debate, which will have some eminent Ogun women as panelists will hold at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Auditorium at 9am.

VOW, conceived by Doyinsola Ogunbiyi, comprises of female indigenes of Ogun State either by birth or marriage. Ogunbiyi, a three-time commissioner in Ogun State, is a woman of character and proven integrity and highly respected in the State.

Vow’s driving force is the hunger and thirst for recognition of women in the rightful places in governance.
 “We want the Voice of Ogun Women to be heard loud and clear, well understood and be reckoned with. We hunger and thirst for the development of Ogun State to rob off on Women and by extension on the various classes of families in the state. We are convinced that Women deliver results and  hence capable  to achieve tangible and qualitative as well as quantitative development progress in Ogun State,” the statement said.
VOW wants women must participate in all aspects of governance in Ogun State to achieve this. “Women participation at all levels and agencies must not be less than 40 percent. We want families to be adequately catered for especially in the following measurable areas such as affordable housing; affordable and well equipped health facilities; affordable education; micro loans to support Women Entrepreneurs and market facilities to support traders” among others..
Its objectives are to ensure that women have a voice in every matter concerning them in the society and government; build self-confidence in Women in order to realise their purpose in life; create awareness for Women to discover their worth and potentials; enable Women realize their strengths capabilities and abilities among others.
Its mission is to raise innovative and impactful women in Ogun State; make total quality character the brand of Ogun Women; see Ogun women as assets for the development and progress of the State rather than tools and make Ogun Women role models to the world in women emancipation.
“We have no doubt that when the history of Ogun state turn around for good governance will be written, this gender based organization will be generously mentioned as one of the progressive platforms used for achieving it”, the statement said.
