LADI Lawanson, the Lagos State commissioner of Transportation, has reiterated the determination of the government to continuously seek ways to ease movement on its roads.

Speaking at the commissioning of the newly constructed layby at Allen roundabout, Ikeja, the commissioner stated that the layby will aid in decongesting the gridlock peculiar to the axis due to the loading and offloading of passengers by commercial vehicles particularly during peak period, adding that its completion will have positive impact on travel time within the axis.

While lauding the current administration under the leadership of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for its relentless effort in the transportation sector, Lawanson stated that the interventions are in line with the pledge made by the governor at the beginning of his tenure to embark on infrastructural projects, which in turn will spur massive growth in economic activities in the state.

According to him, the project is not the first of its kind as the Lagos State Government has created other laybys with the same objective of creating ease of vehicular movement.

He, therefore, urged all Lagosians to cooperate with the government by obeying traffic rules and regulations in order to ensure a free flow of traffic across the Lagos metropolis.

Lawanson maintained that the massive investment of the state government in the transportation sector has and will always be geared towards ensuring the free flow of traffic, road safety as well as social and economic development in Lagos.

Earlier in his welcome address, Taiwo Olufemi Salaam, the permanent secretary in the Ministry, urged the general public, especially the road transport unions and their members not to turn the facility into an abode for all sorts of illegal activities, warning that the State government will take necessary measures to ensure sanity and order in the area.

He also admonished the people to see the project as their own and make the best use of it, noting that the layby must not be used as a lavatory, bedroom or colony for anyone.
