The Adamawa House of Assembly has assured of speedy passage of the 2019 budget presented by Gov. Muhammadu Bindow.

Alhaji Kabiru Mijinyawa, the speaker of the house gave the assurance on Tuesday in Yola while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) .

Mijinyawa said it was in line with the commitment of the house that the budget was subjected to second reading shortly after it was received from the governor.

“The presentation of the budget today by the governor represents the first reading, while we followed it up with the second reading immediately and forward it to house committee for further legislative action.

“What we want ministries and agencies to do to enable us pass the budget in good time is to honour invitations to the house to defend their allocations,” he said.

Mijinyawa said it is only during budget defense that the house can increase or reduce ministries’ budgetary allocations.

On performance of 2018 Appropriation Act, the speaker scored it high, putting its implementation at 62 per cent.

NAN reports that Bindow had presented 2019 budget of N230. 9 billion to the house for consideration.

The proposal is made up of N127.4 capital expenditure and N103. 4 billion recurrent expenditure.

According to the governor, the budget tagged “Budget of Next Level” is to sustain development in the state.

Bindow lauded what he described as “peaceful and cordial relationship” between the legislature and executive since inception of his administration and assured of his commitment to uphold the trust and confidence reposed on the executive. (NAN)
