HAMEED Ali, comptroller-general of the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, has told the Senate that he would appear before the lawmakers on Wednesday, March 15, as it would coincide with the routine management of the service. ‎Ali consequently asked for a new date.

Ali’s letter was read at the plenary on Tuesday, March 14. The letter which was signed by an assistant comptroller general, further caused another round of criticism from the lawmakers who already consider the customs boss as arrogant.

Bukola Saraki, president of the Senate, after listening to the aggrieved lawmakers, said Ali must appear before the lawmakers on Wednesday and in uniform as requested by the legislature.

The Senate summoned Ali on Thursday, March 9, over the planned clampdown on vehicles without duty payment.

In its resolution, the Senate said Ali must appear in appropriate Customs uniform which he has not been publicly seen to have worn.

He had hit back at the Senate, asking the lawmakers to show interest in his work not his dress.
