THE World Bank in partnership with the Agency for Community and Social Development Projects ( CSDP) has executed 30 live touching projects across 10 rural areas in Akwa Ibom.

The National Coordinator, Federal Project Support Units (FPSU), Dr Abdulkareem Obaje , stated this during a one-day training for monitoring and evaluation officials of the project unit in Uyo on Monday.

He said that the benefiting communities were Ikot Onwon, Utu Ikot Ukpong, Ukana Nssasak, Uruk Uso, Abia Okpo, Ikpe Atai, Ikot Okh Usung, Nto Ndang, Itie Ikpe.

The projects include construction of health centres, renovation of classroom blocks, construction of toilets, purchase of  materials for schools and procurement of drugs.

Others include construction of civic centres , provision of motorised boreholes, construction of market stores and extension of electricity, among others.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the training was “Environmental and Social Safeguard”.

Ibaje rated Akwa Ibom as the best performing state in execution of community development projects.

He said that such excellent performance informed the choice of Akwa Ibom to host the workshop, so that other states in the South-East and South-South could learn their template that helped them to succeed in their drive for rural development.

He warned that community development projects must be strategically positioned in line with Federal Government’s determination to improve infrastructure in rural communities.

Responding, Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom said the training was necessary to address environmental problems and other hazards associated with implementation of projects in rural communities.

He listed the problems to include flood, excessive rainfall in the south, conflicts from communities and land ownership tussle arising from project sites.

Emmanuel, who was represented by the Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Sea, Mr Akan Okon, commended Akwa Ibom Agency for Community and Social Development ( CSDP) for being the best in the South-South in the implementation of projects in the zone.

NAN reports that the highlight of the training was inspection of all Community and Social Development ( CSDP) projects in Ikono, Etinan, Essien Udim, Abak, Etim Ekpo, Ukanafun, Ini and Obot Akara Local Government Areas in the state. (NAN)
