D:Defender male handball team on Sunday beat Borno Spiders of Maiduguri 34-28 at the ongoing Prudent Energy Handball Premier League in Abuja.

The D:Defender side showed better skills and were more coordinating in their attack in the second half.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after the match, the Chief Coach of Borno Spiders, Mohammed Ali, said his team would ensure that they won their next two matches.

He added that this would help them to remain comfortably in the Premier League. “We are in the tenth position on the table and it will be hard for my team to earn a top-six position, but we will work harder to ensure we are still in the league.

“We could have made it to greater heights, but we had a walk-over and we lost two matches,” Ali said.

“We are going back to the drawing board and my target will be that we win two matches  before the league is over. That will secure us a good place in the league,” he said.

Also, in other matches played in the league’s male category, Kada Stars defeated Confluence Stars 27-21, and Plateau Vipers defeated COAS Shooters 34-27, while Safety Shooters defeated Delta Force 29-15.

Matches will continue in the female category on Monday as Adorable Angels take on Imo Grasshoppers, Plateau Peacocks face Seasiders Babes and Defenders Babes take on Safety Shooters.
