RUSSIAN President Vladmir Putin has commended the Chinese government for the efforts and successes it has recorded in handling the coronavirus epidemic in China.
Putin in a telephone chat with Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China’s efforts, especially in rendering assistance to other countries was indeed commendable.
According to the text of the telephone conversation made available by the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Putin eulogised the Chinese government for contribution to the safety of world citizens in spite of all odds.
“By providing timely assistance to other countries affected by COVID-19, China has set an example for the international community.
“Russia will maintain its mutual support and close cooperation with China in battling the virus and further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between the two countries,” he said.
Xi also declared firm support to Russia as the nation strives to achieve lasting prosperity and stability.
He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Putin, the Russian people would rally and achieve new success along a development path that suits the country.
Xi said that the nation had to immediately rise to the challenge posed by the virus as it not only threatened Chinese citizens but all world citizens.
“Thanks to the painstaking efforts made so far, the situation in China is steadily turning for the better, with life and work returning to normal at a faster pace.
“We have confidence, capability and determination to win the final victory over the outbreak,” he said.
Xi expressed China’s readiness to work with Russia and other countries to fight the pandemic, adding that China would promote international cooperation against the epidemic, share experience on prevention, control and medical treatment, and push for breakthroughs in joint research.
He added that China would work with other countries to jointly confront common threats and challenges and safeguard public health security for all.
Xi noted the mutual support, solidarity and close collaboration between China and Russia in this extraordinary fight against the virus, describing them as a testament to the strength of China-Russia relations in the new era.
“The cooperation between the two countries enjoys a solid foundation and a strong internal driving force.
“In the context of the Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation in 2020 and 2021, the two sides must seize the opportunities for carrying out still more fruitful cooperation in various fields,” he said. (NAN)
