Rachael Umahi distributes palliatives to residents, pledges more

WIFE of Ebonyi Governor, Mrs. Rachael Umahi, has assured different ethnic groups, widows and physically challenged persons in the state of more supports to cushion effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Umahi made the pledge on Friday while distributing 2000 bags of 5kg rice and cash to the  Rachael Umahi Women for Akubaraoha, a group comprising widows, indigent women, Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo communities in the state.

The governor’s wife represented by her Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Donatus Owo, said she was committed to their welfare to enable them to abide by the guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Umahi urged the beneficiaries to continue to maintain social distancing, wash their hands frequently, and use face masks in public.

She charged the women to always extend their campaign for precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19 to rural communities.

“Keep abiding by the rules to prevent contracting the virus especially at the market,” Umahi said.

She further commended Gov. David Umahi for being proactive in the fight against the pandemic.

The Director of the Association and Focal Person, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Mrs. Ngozi Obichukwu, commended Gov. Umahi and his wife for their commitment to the fight against the pandemic.

Obichukwu called for the extension the palliatives to other needy.

Meanwhile, a member of the state Muslim Welfare Pilgrim Board (EBMWPB) and representative of Hausa community in the state, Hajiya Habiba Ibrahim, has commended the governor’s wife over her kind gesture to the community.

Also, the Yoruba Women Leader and member EBMWPB in the state, Hajiya Gani Abibatu, applauded her numerous supports to women in the state. (NAN)
