CORINE Karema, the interim CEO of RBM Partnership to End Malaria, has written to partners of the global movement towards ending malaria.
Karema, who is almost two months old as the interim boss of the institution, rejoiced that between the times she was appointed to present, she prioritized meeting with as many members of the malaria community as possible.
While commending the works and efforts of the partners, she noted that she has learned about the incredible work being delivered by the partners for the acceleration of real progress against malaria worldwide.
“I have been privileged to represent the RBM Partnership at several events,” she said.
The events, which she highlighted included the opening of the RBM Partnership’s 33rd meeting of the Surveillance, Monitoring, and evaluation Reference Group, SMERG, the rethinking Malaria Leadership webinar on how a diverse group of malaria advocates are addressing malaria as a society-wide problem and the first in-person Eastern Africa Regional CRSPC meeting.
According to her, these events are geared towards achieving the WHO’s plan to eliminate malaria by 2030.
Karema noted that her most immediate focus is the forthcoming Kigali Summit on Malaria and NTDs, which is scheduled for Thursday June 23.
“This will be a pivotal moment for our community to come together and collectively call attention to the need for more significant global investment in the fight against malaria and ensure global leaders deliver a fully replenished Global Fund in September,” she said.
She urged partners to continue to reach out to her directly and the RBM Partnership to share details of their events and activities.
While expressing her commitment to strong collaboration, she said: “I am committed to further bolstering the Secretariat team to support partners’ ongoing efforts to end malaria.
“I would welcome your ideas on how we can continue to work better, together.”
