Reckless driver to die for crushing FRSC personnel to death

A state high court sitting in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, has sentenced a reckless driver, Usman Aliyu, to death for crushing a Federal Road Safety Corps’ Marshal Assistant (RMA III), Muhammad Babangida, to death.
A statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, said the incident occurred along Ahmadu Bello way in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, on April 3, 2017.
According to reports, Aliyu who drove a Black Toyota Corolla with the registration number, KLG 342 AA on the said day had attempted to knock down a member of the FRSC patrol team, Abubakar Garba Abubakar.
However, when he couldn’t knock Abubakar down, he recklessly headed for the deceased and ensured that he crushed him to death as his first target.
The accused, who was sentenced to death on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2018, was also reported to have fled the scene after killing his victim. However, he got arrested along Kalgo Road by the police after a tip-off.
The Corps has lost 74 personnel to reckless drivers in the last 18 months. – Punch
