THE preparation for the 2023 National Population and Housing Census has been put in top gear all over Nigeria. The National Population Commission (NPC) has since announced the commencement of recruitment of ad-hoc staff for the exercise.
The ad-hoc staff needed by the NPC are facilitators, field coordinators, training centre administrators, monitoring and evaluation officers, data quality managers, quality assurance officers, supervisors, and enumerators.
The commission plans to recruit 25 million ad-hoc staff for the 2023 population census exercise. The 2023 Census e-recruitment portal that was opened on October 27 closes on December 10, 2022.
Anambra State Government has urged all eligible candidates to apply to serve as the NPC ad-hoc staff. The application process is quite easy in that all it takes to apply is just a click on the direct URL for the registration portal.
Prospective ad-hoc staff can only apply on the census portal in areas where they are resident and will be deployed accordingly.
The requirements for registration as listed by the NPC include: a valid National Identification Number (NIN); a functional Gmail account; functional phone number; functional/operational commercial bank account; and relevant educational qualifications.
According to the NPC, all applications must be accompanied by genuine documentation and verifiable personal data. Any data or document submitted that is found to be fake, untrue, or fraudulent will lead to automatic disqualification of the applicants application.
After filling in all the required information and the application is successful, the portal will furnish the applicant with an application ID, and a confirmation SMS will be sent to the phone number provided.
It is incumbent on the applicant to endeavour to screenshot and save the application ID which might be required during the interview.
The NPC has therefore urged the recruitment review team in Anambra to be thorough while screening prospective ad-hoc staff for the conduct of the 2023 Population and Housing Census.
Chief Chidi Ezeoke, the NPC Commissioner representing Anambra State at the federal level of the Commission, made the call recently in Awka.
Ezeoke made the plea at a two-day workshop for State and Local Government Areas Recruitment Teams for the Census, stressing: “I urge the recruitment team to ensure that only qualified persons are recruited.
Ezeoke alleged that the state NPC Accountant, Mrs Theresa Okeke, was recently strangled to death by her stepson who was an ad-hoc staff during the trial census.
According to Ezeoke, If those who applied for the trial census had been thoroughly screened, maybe, we would not have lost our Accountant. So, we do not want such an incident to reoccur. I urge the recruitment review team to be thorough. Do not screen candidates based on sentiment, that he or she is your brother, sister or friend should not be tolerated.
The Commissioner also advised the team to ensure that the applicants appear physically for screening to know the persons behind the applications.
The recruitment of the NPC ad-hoc staff is an issue which the Anambra State Government takes very seriously, and we do not mince words at all in urging all qualified Ndi-Anambra candidates to duly apply.
