
Rector warns against unwholesome practices, as Bauchi Polytechnic matriculates 8,085 students

ABUBAKAR Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP), Bauchi, on Wednesday, matriculated a total of 8,085 students for the 2019/2020 academic session.
Rector of the polytechnic, Malam Adamu Saidu, while speaking at the occasion in Bauchi, warned students against unwholesome practices capable of destroying their future.
Saidu, who was represented by his deputy, Malam Abdulmajid Jamal, said that the institution would not condone indiscipline from either the students or members of staff.
”We will continue to guard against cultism, examination malpractices, and sexual harassment. We will not tolerate any act of vandalism, drug abuse, indecent dressing, and truancy,” he said.
The rector urged the matriculating students to be good ambassadors of the institution as well as their customs and tradition in order to enhance a prosperous nation.
While congratulating them for securing admission into the polytechnic, Saidu implored them to make good use of the opportunity by studying hard to justify their admission.
“Your welfare is paramount to us in this polytechnic and we will strive to promote it,” he said.
The rector also urged them to strictly abide by the COVID-19 protocols, including the use of face masks and hand sanitizer as well as maintaining social distancing, warning that violation of the protocol would attract sanction.
According to him, no fewer than 50 handwashing points have been mounted at strategic locations within the institution for easy access to the facilities.
Saidu commended the Gov. Bala Mohammed-led administration for prioritizing the education sector, even as he expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for its ‘unprecedented attention’ to the development of the sector nationwide.
He also lauded the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund for their sustained interventions in education, saying “we have benefitted tremendously from their intervention.
In his address, the Commissioner for Education, Malam Aliyu Tilde, expressed the state government’s commitment to repositioning the education sector through the provision of conducive teaching and learning environment.
He said that adequate provision had been in the 2021 budget to rejuvenate the sector, adding that hundreds of schools had been built and renovated across the state.
“We will soon promote no fewer than 3,000 primary and secondary school teachers, as part of our efforts to promote their welfare,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that highlights of the occasion were the administration of matriculation oath on the new students by the Registrar, Abdullahi Alhaji-Adamu, cultural displays, and other educational engagements. (NAN)
