Pastor Thomas Bamidele of Good News Church, Ilorin,on Wednesday called on Nigerians not to fold their arms, but to be prayerful, for the peaceful conduct of the 2019 general elections.

Bamidele made the call in Ilorin during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The cleric said Nigerians need to pray that desperate politicians, in the event of defeat, would accept it, and not resort to violence.

” General election is near and we can’t fold our arms and allow desperate and selfish people to turn our country to a war zone.

”We need to rise and pray for peaceful election in 2019.

“Divine intervention from above is what we seek, and Nigerians need to unite and speak with one voice — be you Christian or Muslim — and pray for the good of the country,” he said.

Bamidele said it was the duty of every Nigerian to pray for the peaceful conduct of the election in order not to generate social violence.

He also advised politicians to be mature and learn to accept defeat in good faith.

Presidential and National Assembly elections are due to take place on Feb. 16, 2019, while governorship and state houses of assembly elections are slated for March 2, 2019. (NAN)
