RT Rev. Michael Akinwale, the Secretary of Conference, Methodist Church of Nigeria, has urged Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with hearts full of gratitude.

The Cleric gave the advice at the maiden edition of an evening of songs, organised by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), on Monday in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the evening of songs was conceived to provide a platform for members of CIBN and others in banking and finance community to celebrate and share warm moments together in the spirit of the season.

Akinwale said that the season was one that every living soul ought to be grateful for, especially for the gift of Christ and for life.

“As we celebrate this season, let us know that the ultimate reason we are created is to continue to appreciate Christ.

” Christ is our joy, hope and strength; any institution that is addicted in praising God, will continue to enjoy His uncommon peace.

“Praising God generates unusual gifts, attracts heaven’s attention and brings down His glory.

” So, let us know that our gratitude to God will determine our altitude and our altitude will show God’s depository value in us.

“This is only when His glory and beauty will begin to radiate in us and make us come alive,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Uche Olowu, Chairman of CIBN, expressed gratitude to God for the extraordinary successes the Institute had recorded in various activities in the course of the year.

“Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude and gratitude is the completion of thankfulness, according to Henri Frederic Amiel.

”However, Christmas is a season of giving and sharing.

” We also know that Christmas is most truly Christmas when we celebrate it by giving the light of love to those around us.

“To this end, as you share your gifts this season, I have some Christmas gift suggestions for you: forgive your enemy, tolerate your opponent.

“Also, to a friend, give your heart, be a good example to a child, be kind to the poor, to a customer render good service, to all, charity and to yourself, respect,” he said.

NAN reports that groups like Praise Chorale, One House Band, Hymnodia, Praise Medley, among others, perfomed at the event.
