THE Methodist Church in Nigeria has announced that its services will continue unrestricted. The mission urged the local churches to provide sanitisers at the entrance of the churches.
In a statement signed by Samuel Emeka Kanu Uche, Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, the church called on all local churches to fumigate their churches with immediate effect. The statement noted that the use of the Chalice should be suspended for the next four weeks.
“Single cups should be used for administration of the Sacrament of Holy Communion and sterilized after use. That all conveniences, especially toilets should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected at least 2 times on a daily basis.
“That all our churches must be cleared of all garbage, stagnant water, weeds and all overgrowths. That the shaking of hands during our services shall be discontinued until further notice. That the duration of services should not exceed 2 hours in accordance with conference policy on duration of services.
“That open air outreaches outside our churches are to be discontinued forthwith until further notice. That as a church; and the body of Christ, we shall continue on intensive prayers and fasting for God’s divine intervention at this critical time of our national and global history.
“This is to covey our empathy to our people on the ravaging COVID-19 and which is claiming lives throughout the world. This pandemic is not only a threat to the existence of humanity but a brutal challenge to our corporate existence,” it said.
