SEN. Teslim Folarin (APC-Oyo Central) and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Niyi Akintola have felicitated Muslims in Oyo State as they join others across the world to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.
This is contained in their separate eid-el-fitr messages made available to newsmen on Saturday in Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that Muslims across the world would on Sunday celebrate the eid-el-fitr to mark the end of Ramadan 1441 AH.
Folarin in the statement he personally signed, congratulated Muslims in the state on the successful completion of the Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Content enjoined them to reflect on the inherent lessons embedded in fasting, which included faith, sincerity, sacrifice, humility, compassion, giving, piety, and commitment.
He regretted that the holy festival was being globally celebrated in a low-key due to the coronavirus pandemic, which had badly affected thousands of human lives with attendant toll on the global economy.
The former Senate Leader advised Muslims to cast back their minds to the good virtues of the Holy month of Ramadan and keep to its teachings throughout their lives.
Folarin reminded Muslims to observe all precautions against the spread of the novel coronavirus as advised by the governments, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and health experts.
“The prescription of physical distancing, use of face mask, washing of hands, covering of mouth and nose as well as coughing or sneezing should not be strange or difficult for Muslims.
“These have been prescribed more than 1400 years ago by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him),’’ Folarin said.
The lawmaker reiterated his commitment and determination to continue to provide qualitative representation to the people of the state, promising to continue providing basic social amenities and other dividends of democracy for his constituents.
He urged Muslims to continue praying fervently for God to reveal potent COVID-19 cures to the Nigerian government and the world at large.
Also, Akintola in the message signed by his Personal Assistant, Prince Olumuyiwa Akinbiyi, said that Nigerians deserve special commendation and encouragement from governments as well as the less privileged persons.
The renown legal luminary said that Nigerians have displayed commendable degree of patience, resilience and adaptation since the COVID-19 pandemic sneaked into the country.
He congratulated Muslims for the successful completion of Ramadam 1441 A.H, which came at an inauspicious time.
“This year, the holy month of Ramadan came at a time the whole world is being challenged by the unfortunate realities of coronavirus pandemic.
“The global Muslim was caught in between adjusting to a new life of restrictions, social distancing and lockdown on one hand as well as fulfilling key religious obligations on the other hand.
“As we join the rest of the world to celebrate the end of Ramadan fasting, we pray Allah to accept every act of worship put forward by all our Muslim brothers and sisters.
“While at the time, we supplicate to God at this time to give us a lasting solution to the pandemic, which is still ravaging the universe,” Akintola said.
