REV. Fr. Gregory Fadele, the Parish Priest of Saint Rita Catholic Church, Ijaye, Abeokuta, on Friday urged Nigerians to abstain from sin and embrace Jesus Christ by emulating his lifestyle.

Fadele told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the Good Friday Service that Nigerians should emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ who sacrificed his life for the redemption of the world.

He said the period was a time for repentance, adding that Christ has paid the price for sins on the cross of Calvary.

“Good Friday signifies Jesus Christ’s mission of redeeming us and saving the world by sacrificing his life for us all

“What we are doing today is to reflect and identify with Jesus in his suffering and also to see from the suffering and tears of Jesus Christ, the consolation in the various problems and troubles of life that we face every day.

“We received the consolation from the cross because it was on the cross that Jesus Christ said it is finished, and it is finished means that no matter the suffering in our lives after the experience of Good Friday, there is always an Easter Sunday.

“We call it Good Friday because beyond the sorrows the pain and suffering of Jesus, the good that came out of it is that on the cross he said that by his stripes we are healed.

“So by the suffering of Jesus, we have received healing, redemption and consolation,’’the clergyman said.

He, however, urged Christians to learn lessons of sacrifice, love, peace and tolerance which Jesus Christ had showed as an example.

Fadele added that Christians should continue to pray fervently for peace in the country and never lose hope in God when there was any problem.

NAN reports that Good Friday is celebrated among Christians as the day Jesus Christ died to redeem mankind from sin. (NAN)
