Islamic New Year: Senator urges prayers for nation’s unity, progress

SEN. Abdullahi Adamu (APC-Nasarawa West) has urged Muslims and other Nigerians to pray for unity and show mutual understanding among themselves for national development.

This is contained in a statement issued by Adamu on Sunday in Keffi as Muslims mark the Islamic New Year (Muharram 1, Hijrah 1441AH).

Adamu urged the faithful and other Nigerians to continue to offe spe ial prayers for peace, unity and progress of the country.

“As the Muslim community marks yet another new Islamic Year today, 1st Muharram 1441AH, on behalf of my family and constituents, I felicitate with the Muslim Ummah across the country on this joyous and memorable occasion.

“The period of a new year offers us an opportunity for sober reflection on our individual relationship with Allah.

“As well as for prayers of unity, mutual understanding, peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance amongst all citizens,” the legislator said.

Adamu, who is the Chairman, senate committee on Agriculture, enjoined Nigerians to also pray for President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders to succeed.

“I enjoin all Nigerians to continuously pray for Mr President and all our leaders as they strenuously work towards solving Nigeria’s development challenges.

“It is my ardent prayer that Allah in his infinite mercy will restore in us our patriotic values, peace and security to our dear country.

“As well as grant all Nigerians good health and prosperiry all year through,” he added.

Besides, Adamu restated his commitment to initiate good policies and programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of his constituents and the country at large.

He urged the people of his constituency and Nigerians at large to live in peace, be law abiding and respect constituted authorities in national interest. (NAN)
