THE Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, the apex sociopolitical youth group in the South East geopolitical zone has commended the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, for empowering 120 Ebonyi youths with N1 million each to enable them start something meaningful with their lives. It is a very good step in the right direction and we appreciate him.
In a statement, the group stated that the empowerment of 1200 youths in Ebonyi State by Governor Nwifuru is a clear pointer that the governor is in solidarity with the vision and mission of President Bola Tinubu to ensure that Nigerian youths are self-employed and empowered which will make them not to be used by anyone to destroy public and private property in the name of protest.
It added that other youths in South East who would have joined the protest withdrew from the action when they saw the empowerment programme of Governor Nwifuru, which they believe will get to their states through their governors.
“But up till now, nothing positive to that regard have been heard. The effect of the N11 billion released to other governors are yet to be seen anywhere.
“Any governor, who fails to empower the youths of their state, is tacitly in support of the protest. There is no two ways about it.
“We call on other governors in the country to emulate the Governor of Ebonyi State Francis Nwifuru by empowering their people, who are mostly youths to avoid being used by some unscrupulous elements to cause havoc in the country.
“We demand that other South East governors should account for the N11 billion collected from the federal government for youth empowerment and other people oriented programmes to cushion the effect of hunger and fuel subsidy removal,” the statement said.
According to the statement, President Bola Tinubu is doing his best to solve the hunger and food shortage challenge in the country and Governor Nwifuru is on the same page with him to make it a reality via his people oriented programmes of empowering the youths for greater productivity.
