Renowned Igbo Leader, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, passes away at 82

THE Igbo Community worldwide is mourning the loss of Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a prominent leader and President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. He passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the age of 82.

Iwuanyanwu was a highly respected figure in Nigeria, known for his tireless efforts to unite the Igbo people and promote their interests. He was a successful businessman, politician and traditional leader, who commanded respect from all quarters.

During his tenure as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Iwuanyanwu worked diligently to draft a new constitution for the organization.

The Cultural Credibility Development Initiative, CCDI, has described Iwuanyanwu as a “great man” who “bestrode Nigeria like a colossus.” In a condolence message, the CCDI praised his leadership and vision, saying that he was a “father, grandfather and great grandfather” to the Igbo people.

Iwuanyanwu’s passing has been met with an outpouring of tributes from across Nigeria. He will be remembered for his contributions to the development of the Igbo people and his commitment to unity and progress.

The CCDI urges the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Executive team to complete and present the new constitution that Chief Iwuanyanwu was working on, as a fitting tribute to his legacy.

“Rest in peace, Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu. Your memory will live on in the hearts of the Igbo people and Nigerians alike,” the group said in a statement.
