Dr David Oformata, a retired Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in Anambra has lauded Gov. Willie Obiano for initiating policies to better the lot of persons living with disabilities in the state.

Oformata, who is visually impaired, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Awka that Obiano had given the physically challenged a sense of belonging with the appointment of at least 68 persons.“Obiano has employed one of us as his Special Adviser on Disability apart from the 67 persons already employed.

“Presently, 200 persons with special needs are being processed for employment and this is a welcome development,” he said.

Oformata also lauded the state government’s scholarship scheme designed for disabled persons willing to enroll for formal education.

“The administration did well by offering to pay the school fees of those with special needs, who are interested in education.

“I wish to appeal to the governor to also appoint competent persons with special needs as commissioners in his cabinet,” he said. (NAN)
