ANAMBRA Government says the application of rule of law in resolving communal feuds has returned peace and development in warring communities of the state.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Collins Nwabunwanne, made the assertion during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Wednesday.

He said that the present administration in the state fancied prevention of conflicts and promotion of peace through the use of rule of law, to achieve equity and fairness.

Nwabunwanne said since the inception of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, different categories of community tussles had been resolved through fair hearing and independent investigations by the ministry.

He urged the citizens not to take laws into their hands irrespective of the height of provocation, and advised that any challenge should be reported to his office for amicable resolution.

“I operate an open door policy. I encourage any aggrieved person or group of persons having any trouble in their communities to report to the ministry.

“We do not want war among kinsmen because of leadership tussles at any level, or land grabbing.

“We need peace in all communities to enthrone a sustained overall development of Anambra,” Nwabunwanne said.

He further said that peace was needed in Anambra to fight insecurity, create jobs and for a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

“There will be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancour,” the commissioner added.

Nwabunwanne said that conflict prevention and peaceful resolutions were better ways to live and attract growth as well as development in communities and the state at large.

The commissioner appealed to community leaders and stakeholders to ensure that they lived in, and sustained peace.

He said that unending leadership tussles in some communities like Agulu, Ifitedunu, Nkwelle Ezunaka, among others, were settled through fair hearing and actions, based on facts. (NAN)
