AN Educationist, Mr Nurudeen Bello, on Thursday urged parents to save indigenous tradition from extinction by encouraging their wards to accept and practice their culture.
Bello, who is the Director, Womanhood School of Health Science, Kaduna, made the call during the celebration of the Schools Cultural Day.
Fielding question from newsmen on the sidelines, he stressed the need to organise cultural days in schools to unite students and acquaint them with their tradition.
According to him, apart from sports and the entertainment industry which unifies Nigerians, culture is another avenue that brings Nigerians together.
He explained that the essence of the celebrating culture in the school was to create awareness in the students about “our indivisibility.”
In his remarks, Pastor Yohanna Buru, the National President of Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, called on Federal Government to set aside a day for the celebration of culture, to be tagged ‘National Cultural Day Celebration’, with the aim of bringing together, all cultural troupes across the country.
Buru said this would help in fostering peace and understanding among Nigerians.
NAN reports that the event featured performance by different Student Cultural Troupes cutting across different tribes.
