SCIENCE, technology and innovation are critical in fighting corruption in the country, says Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology.

Onu stated this on Friday during a courtesy visit by the executives of the National Anti-Corruption Marathon 2020 in his office in Abuja.

He said intelligence gathering and timely administration of justice also required science and technology.

He said corruption was detrimental to the development of the country and, regrettably, the scourge had affected all areas of national life.

According to him, the ministry is committed to supporting President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s fight against corruption.

He said the ministry shall support the administration to deliver on its campaign promises of not just the fight against corruption, but also to build a strong economy and strengthen national security.

The minister added that the fight against corruption was not for government alone.

“ The real fight is a challenge for citizens to take up, most especially at our respective offices and the home front, by instilling good virtues in our children,’’ he said.

Onu said that sporting activities were very crucial to anti-corruption war and powerful tools to mobilise and unite people to awake to the inherent dangers of corruption to the society.

Earlier, Mr Jacob Onu, national coordinator of the National Anti-Corruption Marathon, said the purpose of the visit was to create awareness on the dangers corruption posed to the nation.

He said the exercise would help to strengthen unity among citizens and expose new talents that would represent the nation in major marathon tournaments around the world.

Mr Caleb Gidado, a member of the delegation, noted that the marathon was a welcome idea to help fight the scourge of corruption in Africa. (NAN)
