GOVERNOR Willie Obiano has reassured of his continued support toward adequate provision of security to people of Anambra.

Obiano said this during the 38th National Certificate of Education, NCE/22nd Bachelor of Education, B.Ed, Matriculation Ceremony held at the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.

The governor, who was represented by Theresa Obiekezie, the commissioner for Tertiary & Science Education, assured the institution that his government would do everything to make the students comfortable.

“I am happy you are admitted to this citadel of learning. Feel at home because Anambra State is the safest state for everything good you are doing.’’

He said that the perimeter fencing and intra college roads construction were ongoing, adding that he would provide other things as the need arose.

In his speech, Benjamin Ozumba, the vice-chancellor, the University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, pleaded with the students to aim at academic excellence.

The vice-chancellor represented by Dominic Ngwoke, the dean Faculty of Education, UNN.

The VC said the school had earned enviable reputation for excellence over the years, noting that the institution ranked among top three best Universities in Nigeria.

“Place the interest of the University above other considerations; make decisions guided by honesty, truth, equity and justice. Exhibit highest standard of ethical and moral values,’’ Ozumba said.

Ifenyiwa Osegbo, the provost of the institution, in her address said that the college was part of the Nigerian society faced with a lack of some basic amenities but assured the students of governor’s continued support.

“The college has fair share of problems facing Nigerian society like incessant power outage, shortage of water supply, inadequate infrastructure and essential drugs.

“Do not feel the authorities have neglected your welfare, with Obiano’s support, the college will continue to shine above all other institutions,’’ Osegbo added.

The provost cautioned the students to shun violent demonstrations, cultism, exam malpractices and other social vices that could endanger life and property, urging them to choose dialogue in resolving issues.

She also called on private individuals and organisations to partner with the college in areas of financial assistance and hostel accommodation in order to sustain the development of the college.

Administration of oath of loyalty, formal admission into membership of the college/university, matriculation and cultural songs formed part of the occasion.
