BASHIR Yankuzu, Chief Imam, Federal University of Technology, Minna, has commended the Nigerian Army over the renewed operations against the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East region.
Yankuzu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Monday that the relocation of Lt.-Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff, to the region made it possible for the military personnel to achieve the recent successes.
He said that Buratai had succeeded in re-strategizing the military operations in dealing with the remnants of insurgents once and for all.
He explained that the Chief of Army Staff has demonstrated a high sense of professionalism in the fight against the insurgents.
“We expect this aggressive military operation long ago and hope that the tempo would be sustained to enable residents to move on with their legitimate businesses for peace, progress, and political stability in our country,” he said.
Yankuzu said that several Boko Haram fighters had abandoned their family because of the offensive operations going on to deal with their remnants.
He called on Nigerians, irrespective of religion and political differences, to pray for the success of military operations across the country.
“We must support the personnel deployed to a theatre of war with required intelligence information that could assist in dealing with the remnants of Boko Haram,” Yankuzu said.
He said it was through the unity of purpose and collective efforts of all citizens that the fight against criminal elements could be defeated.
“It is all about the collective survival of our corporate existence. Let us act by coming together, by offering intelligence information that could assist the security personnel to fight insurgency, cattle rustling and armed banditry,” he said.
He called on Nigerians to be more security conscious and support the military with vital information in the ongoing fight against banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities across the country.
Yankuzu said that the contributions of the military formations in the Northeast have increased the confidence of Nigerians in the activities of the military in the country.
