Dandaura assumes duties as 27th Anambra CP

MUSTAPHA Dandaura, has formally assumed duty as the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Anambra Command.

Dandaura officially took over from Mr Garba Umar as the 27th Commissioner of Police in the state on Monday, at the Command’s headquarters in Amawbia, near Awka.

The new police chief, who observed a Sentry Guard mounted in his honour at the quarter guard, later went to his office where he addressed newsmen.

He stated his readiness to tackle the menace of cultism, extortion of money from the public by security men and to ensure hitch free and credible elections in the state.

“The police will be professional in the discharge of their duties during the elections. Police is not a political party and cannot be partisan during the upcoming elections,’’ he said.

The CP later addressed senior Police Officers comprising Heads of Departments and Divisional Police Officers in the command; and tasked them on professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

He also charged them to ensure effective supervision of their subordinates to instill discipline.

NAN reports that the CP after the two meetings, headed to the scene of a tanker explosion, which claimed seven lives at Amawbia roundabout, on Saturday, Feb. 9.

He commiserated with the Anambra government and people of the state over the loss of lives and property following the incident. (NAN)
