DG NYSC warns corps members against unnecessary journeys

BRIG. Gen. Sule Kazaure, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, on Tuesday warned corps members against the dangers of embarking on unnecessary journeys.

Mrs. Clara Anekwe, the Director Certification at the NYSC delivered Kazaure’s  message while representing him at a visit  to the orientation camp of Batch “B” 2018 corps members deployed to Abia.

Anekwe  appealed to corps members to avoid such journeys if they were not important.

She noted  that the scheme had lost a lot of corps members in the past to such incidents and would not allow such occurrence any longer.

“We have put a lot in training you.If that journey is unavoidable, please obtain permission before leaving. In these days of uncertainty,  tell somebody where you are going”, she said.

She equally urged them to respect the culture and tradition of the people where they were being posted to serve.

She appealed to them to endear themselves to their host communities by living a good life as well as engaging in community services.

She  regretted the death  of nine corps members who got drowned in a Taraba river while on a picnic at the weekend.

She told corps members to be careful about where they do their picnics or birthday parties.

“If possible don’t go close to the rivers. Please avoid those dangerous areas”, she said.

Mrs Fransesca Ifon, State Cordinator NYSC, Abia Anekwe that the corps members had conducted themselves in a disciplined and patriotic manner.

She disclosed that 2073 corps members, consisting of 1165 males and 908 females were registered for the orientation.

One of the highlights of the visit was the inspection of camp facilities by Anekwe. She  expressed satisfaction over the sanitation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Anekwe arrived the camp  at about 4.50 pm, more than five hours late. (NAN)
