The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has deployed no fewer than 798 marshals for special Eid-el-Kabir Operation in Enugu State.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Enugu State, Mr Ogbonna Kalu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Wednesday ,that the special operation would start from Aug. 9 to Aug. 16.
Kalu said that out of the number, the command would deploy 679 Regular and 119 Special Marshals to major road corridors to ease traffic and attend to emergency rescues on the roads in the state.
He said:”For the Regular Marshals, we will be deploying a total of 310 personnel on ground within Enugu metropolis and its general environs.
“Ninety five personnel will be deployed to Nsukka unit area; 78 personnel deployed in Ninth-Mile Corner unit area.
“Ozalla unit area, 71 personnel; Awgu unit area, 58; Obollo Afor unit area, 47 and 20 to our new Oji River outpost.
“The Special Marshals will also work with the Regular Marshals at the various positions and areas of deployment.”
He said that 18 vehicles of the command would be in full operation, including 14 patrol vehicles and additional one vehicle expected from the headquarters; two trucks, one ambulance and one motorbike.
“The operation will focus on failure to use/install speed limiters, overloading, driver’s license violation, lane indiscipline and dangerous driving.
“Others are operating mechanically deficient vehicle, driving with expired, worn out or not having spare tyre and any life threat issues on the road.
“The objectives of the operation are to increase FRSC visibility and public enlightenment on good road use and habit among motorists.
“To curtail re-occurrence of road crashes as well as provide prompt rescue services where necessary.
“We will ensure quality traffic observatory and collect vital road information and statistics.’’
The sector commander said that FRSC would be working in collaboration with sister security agencies to ensure safety.
“We have concluded arrangements with the Nigeria Police, NSCDC, Nigerian Army, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).”
He said FRSC would also collaborate with Federal and State Fire Services as well as the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (ESMA) among others, for the success of the special operation. (NAN)
