A top official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Nnewi Unit has appealed to road users to imbibe road traffic rules and always apply them.

Assistant Corps Commander, ACC, Christy Obasi Okonkwo, noted that if pedestrians and road users are knowledgeable on traffic rules, they will be safe from road accidents and will avoid being apprehended.

“Motorcycle riders, private motorcycles and vehicles without functioning parking lights, driver’s licences, number plate violators will be apprehended as from August 1.

“This is directed by the FRSC headquarters in Abuja,’’ Christy Obasi said during an interview in her office.

“I held a meeting with the leaders of Nnewi North and South and Idemili South Motorcycle Operators’ Executive Committee, to sensitise them on the latest enforcement that will start soon.

“I also want them to inform their members about the rules, so as not to fall victim, but to freely go about their motorcycle operation.

“The sensitisation is for their safety and also to reduce road accidents,’’ she said.

Obasi cautioned road users to be conscious of accidents and avoid speeding, over loading, use of limbs instead of approved signs to direct traffic.

“A deviation from the use of the right equipment can cause accidents, especially during ongoing rainy season,’’ she said.

“I hope to see changes from Nnewi road users, especially those under my unit, — Nnewi North and South and Idemili South,’’ Obasi added.
