President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a special mobile squad for Plateau State as part of efforts aimed at putting an end to security challenges being witnessed in parts of the state.

The state governor, Simon Lalong, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Tuesday shortly after joining leaders of the Church of Christ in Nations led by Rev. Dachollom Datirin to pay a visit to Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Lalong said he got the presidential approval for the additional force last week.

He said his administration had done a lot to restore peace to troubled parts of the state and to rehabilitate Internally Displaced Persons.

He said a committee he set up on the security challenges would be submitting its report to him today (Tuesday).

The governor said, “We have done a lot, including the rehabilitation of the Internally Displaced Persons.

“We set up a committee and they are submitting their report today (Tuesday).

“I had assured everybody after that crisis that we are going to rehabilitate the place.

“We have applied to Mr. President and he has approved for us additional force, a Special Mobile Squad and I got the approval of Mr. President last week.

“So we are waiting to get the committee’s report and then we will start moving people to their ancestral homes.

“The people of Plateau are making their complaints. Everybody has a right to make complaints but as far as the government is concerned in Plateau, we have done a lot, we have gone far with some of the issues that were raised.

“The only one that pulled us back was the killing of the general.”

Lalong said he had charged community leaders to always expose criminals in their domain.

He said the state would continue to experience security challenges if the community or religious leaders protected criminals among them. – Punch
