THE Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) on Tuesday said that lack of central data system remained the greatest hindrance to investigating and tracking of criminals in the country.

The Commissioner of Police, PSFU, Ibrahim Larmode, said this in Lagos during a visit by course participants from the Defence Intelligence Agency.

“It takes long time to track criminals due to lack of central data system. Our justice system also needs to be enhanced to enable investigators expand more on pictorial evidence,” said Larmode who was represented by his deputy, Dan Okoro.

He said that there was the need to diversify the unit’s methods of investigating fraud in view of the endemic nature of forgery.

Larmode added that continuous synergy and collaboration with other sister agencies would enhance performance of the PSFU.

According to him, the PSFU is in working relationship with embassies, London Metropolitan Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other international agencies in tackling cross-border frauds.

Earlier, the Commandant, Defence Intelligence College, Navy Commodore Oyeleye Jaiyeola said that the visit was an integral part of the course curriculum. (NAN)
