ANAMBRA State Government has expressed worry over clandestine activities and incessant deviant behaviours among some students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Governor Willie Obiano, who expressed dismay, noted that it was regrettable that some students had deviated from their primary objective in school and joined gangs geared toward self-destruction.

The governor said he would mobilise security agencies to raid Ifite-UNIZIK road and apprehend students, indulging in sale of illicit drugs and other crime-related activities.

Obiano was carrying out unscheduled inspection of ongoing road construction in the area.

“I want to ensure the state is drug-free and maintain the tempo of security in the state.

“I will enforce security on the road, in order to fight crime and molestation, so that students will be free in plying the road.

“Anyone apprehended by security agencies must be prosecuted. I enjoined you to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authority,’’ the governor said.

Obiano also condemned the filthy nature of the environment and directed the waste management agency to swing into action immediately.

He promised that the road would be delivered before the end of April, as it would have modern road facilities.

Ikenna Igwebuike, President, Student Union Government, SUG, expressed appreciation to the governor for intervening, saying the road used to be “death trap to the students.’’

He commended the contractor for speeding up the construction work on the road.
