The police on Monday arraigned  public servant, Ekwugbalu Anthony, in an Upper Area Court in Karmo Abuja, for allegedly beating up his wife.

Anthony, who resides at Sabon Estate, Life Camp Abuja, is charged with criminal intimidation.

The police prosecutor, Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that the defendant’s wife,  Adeline,  reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on Feb. 28.

Ukagha said the defendant allegedly threatened to kill her.

She alleged that the defendant went to their children’s school and tried to sign them out but the school authority refused.

Ukagha said the complainant reported that she feels unsafe around the defendant due to his persistent threat to kill her and constant beating.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 397 of the Penal Code.

However, the defendants denied committing the offence.

Mr Idenyi Attah, counsel to the defendant, applied for bail of the defendant  on liberal term.

The judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N150, 000 with one surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Maiwada, who ordered the counsel to the defendant to try and settle the matter, adjourned the case until March 20, for further hearing. (NAN)
