A fighter jet of the Nigerian Air Force has destroyed a gathering of Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists in the Tumbun Sale and Tumbun Allura areas of Lake Chad in Borno State, killing scores of the insurgents.

The NAF said on Monday that the operation was carried out by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole which was the military arm fighting the terrorism war in the North-East, noting that the destruction of ISWAP terrorists was carried out on Friday.

According to the air force, military intelligence revealed that the ISWAP fighters gathered with their “vehicles and other logistics support items, well camouflaged under the dense vegetation within the settlements.”

Our correspondent learnt that scores of the terrorists were killed during the military bombing of the locations.

The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said an Alpha Jet aided by an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform was deployed to take out the IS location.

He said, “The Air Task Force has destroyed the Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists’ vehicles and some logistics infrastructure at Tumbun Sale and Tumbun Allura on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno State.

“A NAF Alpha Jet, supported by an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform, was dispatched to attack the terrorists’ hideouts in successive strikes resulting in damage to several structures as well as the destruction of one of the terrorists’ vehicles, which was seen engulfed in flames.

“The NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, will sustain its efforts to completely destroy all remnants of the terrorists in the North-East.” – Punch
