A group of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, youths in the South-West, PDP Youths Congress, PDPYC, has accused the Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, Biodun Olujimi of working with the State Governor, Kayode Fayemi to render the party, PDP, impotent in the State.
The group, which urged the Federal High Court to exercise restraint and avoid being used as political tool by the Fayemi-led APC State government and their ally in the PDP, Senator Olujimi, and by extension their sponsored plaintiffs, said Congresses are internal matters of political parties and we wonder the urgency necessitating at this time of Coronavirus pandemic, an ex-parte application on ordinary PDP Ward Congresses in Ekiti that have been approved by the party’s National Working Committee.
The youths said it was funny that Governor Fayemi was approbating and reprobating at the same time by issuing Executive Order, asking people to stay at home and at the same time arranging a court sitting to achieve his clandestine plot to render the PDP impotent in Ekiti.
According to the Convener, Comrade Oluwole Durojaiye, PDPYC, Ekiti people should hold the State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Wale Fapounda, who is the brain behind the hurried tomorrow sitting of the Federal High Court responsible should there be new cases of Coronavirus in the State since it is now obvious that Governor Fayemi won’t mind putting the health of Ekiti people in danger just to satisfy his political wish.
We are also aware that lawyers will be coming to Ekiti State from Coronavirus prone States and we wonder why despite the lock down, Governor Fayemi will allow people to enter the State in the name of a political matter that has no bearing on the lives of Ekiti people.
We are aware that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, suspended court sittings in the country till further notice because of the Coronavirus pandemic. Courts are only expected to sit on matters that are urgent and time-bound.
We have also been informed that even lawyers in Ado Ekiti, wrote to the Commissioner of Police through the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Chairman, Olasanmi Falade, raising concern over the planned sitting of the Federal High Court, and pointing out its implications on the health of the people as regard the Coronavirus pandemic.
The question now is; of what urgency is an ex-parte application on Local Government and State Congresses of the PDP in Ekiti that have been suspended? This is even more so that political gatherings have been banned in the State and people are more concerned about their lives.
