MAJOR-GEN Abel Umahi (rtd), President General, Ndigbo Lagos has said that the Southeast is the most peaceful geo-political zone in the country, but the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, is making it difficult for Igbos to rest, hence, drawing the federal security agencies to the Southeast.

In an exclusive interview with Realnews on ‘the state of the nation’, at the civic reception for Prof. George Obiozor, President General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide on February 24, in Lagos.

Gen. Umahi said that it was not by accident that the Southeast was the most secured zone.

“Let me tell you exactly about the Southeast, the Southeast situation is that IPOB is not an accepted body in the Southeast, not to talk of it floating a security network.

“The IPOB also constitutes security risks for us. They constitute insecurity and you know that this first attack in Orlu was started by IPOB.

“IPOB has been drawing the federal security agencies to the Southeast to bring war to us, that’s what they are doing. Southeast is the most peaceful geo-political zone in Nigeria today. So if we draw fire on ourselves, t is because of IPOB and its illegal activities,” Umahi said.

“It is not by accident that the Southeast is the most secured zone. If the governors are doing nothing, and I can assure you that the governors are doing much because I’m the chairman of the Southeast security Committee, I know that it did not fall from heaven.

“I know it did not come from inaction, it came because of positive, proactive measures by the governors. But what IPOB is doing is just for cheap popularity. I am surprised that some Igbos are not thinking straight. One, IPOB was proscribed,” he said.

He, however, stated that the other proscribed organisations do respect and listen to their elders, unlike the IPOB. “Amotekun, OPC and others respect their elders. They respect the people, the leadership, and does IPOB respect anybody? IPOB calls all the leaders, all the Obis, all the Kings, Ezes names. So how can we say that such organisation can protect us?

“They go out even to attack people at night; they attack and dispossess. Is it the kind of security that Ndigbo want? That can never help us. They are doing nothing, but every now and again, they attack police stations, they burn it. Why? They are looking for their arms,” he added.
