THE absence of the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the ongoing Olympic in Rio, Brazil, has been attributed to the insensitivity of the Confederation for African Football, CAF.  Asisat Oshoala, 2014 African Women Player of the Year, insisted that the CAF was a major factor behind Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the Rio 2016 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.

The Chris Danjuma tutored side failed to win a game during the qualifying matches; drawing 1-1 at home to Equatorial Guinea and losing 2-1 in Bata in the third round. In an interview with footballlive.ng Oshoala, who was invited for both legs of the third round qualifiers against Equatorial Guinea, argued that scheduling matches outside the FIFA Calendar was a major constraint for foreign based players, who couldn’t join the team early enough.

The African Champions have failed to qualify for successive Olympic Games.
