French Open: Djokovic Beats Nadals
Sports Briefs
–
NOVAK Djokovic became the nemesis of Rafael Nadal at the French Open on Wednesday, June 3, by defeating former king of the clay with straight sets in their quarter final encounter.
Djokovic, world number one, ended the nine-time champion’s reign 7-5 6-3 6-1. The Serb, now two wins from completing the career Grand Slam of all four major titles, will play Andy Murray in the semi-finals on Friday 5.
The Briton beat David Ferrer 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 5-7 6-1 to claim one of his best clay-court wins on Wednesday, June 3, to set a semi-final date with Djokovic.
Murray is unbeaten in 15 matches on the surface this year, but has lost his last seven against Djokovic.
“My job is to forget about what’s happened in the past and focus on that match,” the Scot told BBC Sport.
