THE Flying Eagles, Nigeria’s U20 team, will begin their quest to become world champions for the very first time when they face Brazil on Monday, June 1.

The match is scheduled to hold at Stadium, Taranaki, New Plymouth. According to records, Nigerian team has never defeated Brazil at this level in a competitive game.

Expectations are, however, high that this time that the Flying Eagles will beat the ‘Samba Boys’ for the very first time.

Manu Garba, coach of the Flying Eagles, believes that his boys are up to task with the array of talented players in the squad. There is Kelechi Iheanacho, a Manchester City’s player, who is the most coveted 18-year old in world football.

Iheanacho has done impressive things for City’s Elite Development Squad, EDS, and scored vital goals against Chelsea, FC Porto and Manchester United in recent weeks.

Also in the team are the likes of Success Isaac (Granada, Spain), Moses Simon, a league champion with Gent in Belgium and Taiwo Awoniyi, the youngster severally touted to be the heir apparent to the late Rashidi Yekini — a legendary striker.

To have any hope of advancing to knock out stage, the Flying Eagles have to overpower Brazil, Hungary and Korea DPR, their opponents in the group stage. The World Cup tournament itself kicks off in New Zealand on May 30.
