JOSEPH Yobo, former captain of the Super Eagles, has expressed delight with his role as a brand ambassador of the Nigeria Professional Football League, after he was unveiled by visiting Gianni Infantino, FIFA President. Yobo, who holds the Nigerian international record of 101 appearances, was presented with a customised NPFL jersey by Infantino at a dinner held in his honour.

He disclosed that he was looking forward to working for the advancement of the local league. “When this came up, I had many offers from Nigeria and abroad. I had to put them on hold. I had to do this because I believe in the Nigerian project. There is no place like home.

“Anything that will help protect the future of Nigerian football is okay by me. And this deal will help boost the Nigerian league which is the main source of discovering talents for the national team.

“The NPFL is going places. I am particularly excited with the La Liga partnership. There are many innovations that have made the league much better than what we had in the past. I like the fact that teams can now aspire to win matches anywhere, home or away. I hope my involvement will even make the league better”, he said.
